Dr. Stanley H. Brown
Dr. Brown hails from Harlem, New York. After graduating from college, he embarked upon a calling to teach Native students in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. He worked and walked beside the Oglala Sioux peoples for four years. After leaving South Dakota, Dr. Brown moved to Minneapolis where over his 46 years in education has taught and administrated in urban, suburban, rural, public and parochial schools. Dr. Brown has always focused on equity and high standards in his teaching and schools that he administered.
Dr. Brown has worked with the Stonebridge School for many years and takes delight in working with a school that strengthens the education of the whole child. He is particularly proud of the teaching and administrative staff and their love of teaching and learning. These educators wrap their arms around their students in school and out of school. They always speak of how to better serve their students and families. I am proud to be associated with Stonebridge School.
“Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow.”

Leigh Hamersten
Hello, my name is Leigh Hamersten, I started volunteering in the Library at SBWS (more than 3 years ago) after I retired from working at Hennepin Healthcare for 35 years as a Medical Office Coordinator for the Department of Medicine. In that position I took care of a variety of things for multiple doctors in several different divisions/specialties as well as coordinating the medical students, residents and fellows rotating in those divisions. I am currently a contract worker for the Department of Medicine at Hennepin, where I support physicians going up for academic promotions at the University of Minnesota Medical School – all Hennepin Healthcare physicians are either an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor since it is a teaching hospital.
I have been a long-time member of Good Samaritan Church (who has partnered with SBWS for many years), and once Good Samaritan found out I had retired from my full-time position, she nudged me to try volunteering in the library at SBWS. Once I started, I really liked it. I enjoy it even more now that we have converted all 7,200 plus books into the new scanning system in the library and I get to work with the children and teachers each time I go.
I have lived in South Minneapolis for more than 30 years and live remarkably close to the school. I believe in the mission to inspire lifelong learners with a passion for academic success and hope to find a way to help the school in securing it’s future in the community. I genuinely enjoy the diversity of Stonebridge and absolutely love the children and hope that I can make an impact from being a member of the Board.
Thank you.
